The mission of Street of Dreams/Musicians For Education is to be a light in the dark regions of at risk youth, including those who are incarcerated.

We are an artistic force that has fused with public education to create a desire for higher education. Higher education is a stepping-stone to personal achievement and responsible citizenship and requires good and orderly direction.

Street of Dreams/Musicians For Education provides good and orderly direction.

Street of Dreams is a record label produced by a bridge program for kids who are wards of the court and in the Juvenile Justice System. It is student driven and provides them the capability to integrate back into society through their participation. Operational since 1998, we have partnered with the San Diego County Office of Education and San Diego City College to serve the students of the Juvenile Court and Community Schools.

Located on the campus of San Diego City College, Street of Dreams is a dual enrollment {high school and college ) academic elective, for youth who have never had a college attendee in their family. The children we serve are critically at risk, with a growing population and an alarming number going to prison. Through public performance the students are integrated with their greater community. Using a simple method called "Word Art" we link poetry and spoken word to a group who has been without a voice. We produce a marketable product (CD, poetry book, performance video) from which the proceeds are used to support the college scholarships of the participants.

Street of Dreams is an interactive program that combines the efforts of the Juvenile Justice System, the Public School System and the Community College System, with professional recording artists and business mentors. I am not willing to put another generation of people in prison because we lack the imagination to produce a creative solution. Street of Dreams is a creative solution, and truly a neighborhood partnership."
